much needed summer vacation
B has just finished a very hectic and educational school year. It was her first year teaching in Illinois. She is finding it very different from Tennessee. There is such an emphasis on extracurricular activities that she barely had any teaching time. She did not finish half of any of the textbooks, and, earlier in the year, she discovered the children had not learned many skills by seventh grade that she had mastered with her fourth graders in Tennessee. Also, the children are very worldly-wise. I guess that is the same with any junior high age kids, but they lack a conscience that they should have in a Christian education. After seeing some problems in the administration and communication problems with the school board, principal, and teachers, she decided not to go back to that school. It turns out she is not the only one - including the principal. Hopefully, maybe this will be the impetus that causes real change in the school and helps it to improve in the future.
